Rev. Dr. John Carroll Travis
First Baptist Church Maddoxtown is grateful to God for sending us this born-again preacher and avid teacher of His Word. Dr. Travis emphasizes the study and application of God's Word for spiritual growth, thereby creating a stronger relationship with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. First Baptist Church Maddoxtown is also grateful for Sister Travis , their children and grandchildren for support for our church as he yields and obeys God's call.
Dr. Travis was born to Charles and Rosa Travis as the 12th of 14 children. He was raised in Carroll County Kentucky. At the age of 5, he confessed his hope in Christ at 2nd Baptist Church Ghent, KY, and was baptized by Rev. John C. Sharpe.
Dr. Travis has been married to the former Billie Talbert since 1981 and they have been blessed with two sons: Chris and Logan, two daughter-in-laws: Brittany and Erin, four beautiful granddaughters: Madelyn, Isla, Margot, and Lailah and 1 grandson: Jameson (not pictured).
Dr. Travis obtained his primary and secondary education within the public schools of Carroll county, Kentucky. After graduating from Carroll County high school in 1974, he entered Eastern Kentucky University as a freshman. In the Spring of 1976, he transferred to Georgetown College, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Art Education in 1979. In the Fall of that year, Dr. Travis began his teaching career at Scott County Middle School where he recently retired as Dean of Students after 30 years in the Scott County school system.
Dr. Travis received his Master’s degree in Secondary Education from Georgetown College in 1987. In February, 2010, he earned his Doctorate of Divinity degree from the Master’s International School of Divinity in Evansville, Indiana. Dr. Travis was later selected as a MASTER'S International School of Divinity Registry of Biblical Knowledge Specialist.
Dr. Travis announced his call to the ministry in 1988 and was licensed under Rev. H. M. Dailey at First Baptist Church Stamping Ground. He later served as an Associate Minister to Rev. H. M. Dailey who was, by then, Pastor of Zion Baptist Church in Georgetown, KY.
On March 27, 1994, Lic. John C. Travis accepted the call to be the undershephard at First Baptist Church Maddoxtown. He was ordained on April 16, 1994, at the Zion Baptist Church and installed at First Baptist Maddoxtown on April 24, 1994, as our 22nd pastor. Dr. Travis is a former Dean of the Consolidated District of Central Kentucky.
